Cowboys face Ball State in San Diego SLAM
22nd-ranked Oklahoma State travels to San Diego, Calif., this weekend to face Ball State in the first game of the San Diego SLAM.
OSU is 10-0 and coming off a 72-63 win over No. 21 Syracuse in the Jimmy V Classic on Tuesday night in Madison Square Garden.
The Cardinals are 3-5 this season and coming off a 65-41 loss at No. 15 Butler Wednesday night.
The game will be televised by Cox Cable, which will be available on Cox Communications in both Tulsa (channel 3) and Oklahoma City (channel 7). According to the channel guide on SuddenLink Cable in Stillwater, it will be shown on channel 29.
Due to television broadcast rights, the game will not be on broadcast on ESPN Full Court.
Game Rewind Highlights
Mario Boggan scored 21 points and JamesOn Curry added 20 as the newly ranked Cowboys defeated 21st-ranked Syracuse 72-68 in the Jimmy V Classic.
No shot was bigger than Currys three-pointer with 22 seconds remaining to put OSU up by four.
Freshman Obi Muonelo added 11 for the Cowboys while Marcus Dove, playing for the first time since missing two games due to injury, scored nine points.
Oklahoma State outrebounded the tall Orange players 33-23, and forced 23 turnovers despite committing 22 of their own.
OSU led by as many as 13 points in the second half before a 12-0 run by Syracuse cut the lead to one with 47 seconds remaining.
Perfect Through 10
Oklahoma State has started a season perfect through the first 10 games of the season for just the sixth time in school history.
It is the first time in five years for OSU to win its first 10.
It is the fifth time since Sean Sutton came to OSU in 1990.
OSU was 20-0 to start the 1991-92 season. The Aggies of 1950-51 went 16-0 to start the year. The Cowboys were 13-0 to start the 2001-02 season and 11-0 to begin the 1997-98 year. OSU won 10 before its first loss in 1999-2000.
Cowboys Undefeated
Oklahoma State is one of just 14 teams that are still undefeated as of Thursday morning.
Clemson and Butler are the only other teams that are 10-0 entering Saturdays games.
Butler plays Saturday as well, while Clemson is off until Dec. 19. Missouri and Pittsburgh, both 9-0, play Saturday as well.
Oklahoma State is one of just three schools nationally that has both their mens and womens basketball programs sporting undefeated records.
The Cowgirls are currently 8-0 and combined with the Cowboys 10-0 mark, have a 18-0 combined record.
Pittsburghs teams are a combined 18-0 as well, while Connecticut is a combined 13-0.
20-Point Productions
With Mario Boggan and JamesOn Curry each reaching 20 points against Syracuse on Tuesday, it gives the Cowboys their 11th and 12th 20-point performances of the season.
OSU didnt have a 20-point performer last season until the ninth game, when Curry scored 30 points against Mercer.
Boggan has seven 20-point games this season, while Curry recorded his fourth. Terrel Harris had his first of the season with 20 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Balanced Attack
Oklahoma State has had 42 double-figure performances in 10 games this season, an average of over four per game.
Mario Boggan, JamesOn Curry and Obi Muonelo have each reached double figures in all 10 games.
OSU has had five double-figure scorers in five different games this season: Florida Atlantic, Sam Houston State, Missouri State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Pepperdine.
Series with Ball State
Oklahoma States first-ever meeting with Ball State on the hardwood came on Dec. 29, 2001.
The Cowboys defeated the Cardinals 82-70 in the All-College Classic in Oklahoma City.
OSU had four players score in double figures, led by Maurice Bakers 22 points.
Ivan McFarlin recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Theron Smith and Patrick Jackson led the Cardinals with 19 points each. Smith had a double-double with 10 boards.
Cowboy-Cardinal Connections
Oklahoma State senior David Monds and Ball State senior DAndre Peyton played together at Shores Christian Academy in Ocala, Fla., during the 2002-03 season.
Cowboy junior Marcus Dove attended Millikan High School while Cardinal junior Micah Rollin attended Lakewood High School, both in Long Beach, Calif. The two schools are just three miles apart, just north of Interstate 405.
JamesOn Named Big 12 Player of the Week
Cowboy junior JamesOn Curry was named the Big 12 Conferences Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 3.
He averaged 29.5 points and six rebounds in two victories for the week.
Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Curry scored a career-high 35 points and dished out nine assists with no turnovers.
Against Pepperdine, he scored 24 points and also had two blocked shots.
For the week, he shot 59.5 percent (22 of 37) from the floor, including 5-of-13 (38.5 percent) from beyond the arc.
He also was perfect from the free-throw line on 10 attempts.
JamesOn averaged 36.5 minutes in those two games.
