December 26, 2006 | Cowgirl Basketball
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (10-1) will close out its non-conference schedule this week with a pair of games at the Hawaii Invitational in Honolulu. The Cowgirls will carry a two-game winning streak into their first-round matchup with Columbia on Friday at 9 p.m. (CST). OSU will face either San Francisco or Hawaii on Saturday at either 8 or 10 p.m. (CST) depending on the outcome of OSU's contest against the Lions.
OSU In The Aloha State
The Cowgirls' participation in the Hawaii Invitational will mark the program's sixth trip to The Aloha State. OSU owns a 5-7 record overall in Hawaii and last made the trip to the 50th state in 2001 for the Rainbow Wahine Classic, finishing with a 1-2 mark. The Cowgirls' last postseason appearance also came inside the Stan Sheriff Center, a loss to the Rainbow Wahine in the 2001 WNIT. The Cowgirls posted a 1-1 record in the 1997 Hawaiian Regent Classic, a 1-2 mark in the 1992 Rainbow Wahine Classic and went 2-1 in the 1986 Rainbow Wahine Classic.
Scouting Columbia
The Lions (3-7) enter the weekend on a winning note after taking care of Wagner, 66-46, in their last outing on Dec. 14. Megan Griffith checks in as the squad's leading scorer at 12.0 points per game, while Chelsea Frazier is tops in the squad with her 6.7 boards per game. Freshman Tracey Cole is a Stillwater native and has played in all 10 games for the Lions.

The Rainbow Wahine enter the event with a 5-5 mark overall after splitting a pair of games at the Paradise Classic. Hawaii is 4-3 at home this season and has already taken on a pair of Big 12 teams, losing to Oklahoma on Nov. 18 and knocking off Texas Tech on Nov. 24. Three players are averaging double figures for the Rainbow Wahine, led by Pam Tambini's 14.3 points per game, while Tanya Smith is pulling a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game.
Scouting San Francisco
San Francisco (4-8) last played on Dec. 20, logging a 67-64 victory over Florida State. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Dons. USF is 1-5 away from home this season and is led in the scoring column by Dominique Carter's 15.0 points per game. Nickie Warren leads the squad in rebounding at 6.9 per game.
