Cowboys face Tennessee
After a week off for finals, Oklahoma State returns to the court for a semi-neutral game with the Tennessee Volunteers.
The game will be played at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville, Tenn., approximately three hours west of Knoxville.
OSU is 11-0 this season and currently ranked No. 15 in the Associated Press poll and No. 17 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
The Volunteers are 7-2 overall and receiving votes in both polls. They play Western Kentucky at home on Saturday afternoon.
The game will be televised nationally by espn2 with Brad Nessler handling the play-by-play duties and Jimmy Dykes providing color commentary.
Game Rewind Highlights
Mario Boggan scored a game-high 24 points and was named the Most Valuable Player of the San Diego SLAM as the Cowboys defeated Ball State 75-56 in San Diego States Cox Arena.
JamesOn Curry added 13 points while David Monds and Terrel Harris both scored 10 points each.
The Cowboys shot 50 percent from the field for the fourth-straight game while limiting the Cardinals to just 38 percent, including just 1-of-7 from beyond the arc.
OSU committed just 13 turnovers in the game while forcing 17 by Ball State.
The Cowboys shot 10-of-22 from beyond the three-point arc, good for 46 percent. They also outrebounded the Cardinals, 31-28.
Perfect Through 11
Oklahoma State has started a season perfect through the first 11 games of the season for just the fifth time in school history.
It is the first time in five years for OSU to win its first 11.
It is the fourth time since Sean Sutton came to OSU in 1990 that the Cowboys have won their first 11 games.
OSU was 20-0 to start the 1991-92 season. The Aggies of 1950-51 went 16-0 to start the year. The Cowboys were 13-0 to start the 2001-02 season and 11-0 to begin the 1997-98 year.
Cowboys Undefeated
Oklahoma State is one of just eight teams remaining that are still undefeated as of Friday.
Clemson and Pittsburgh are both 10-0. Pittsburgh plays at No. 7 Wisconsin on Saturday. Clemson doesnt play until next Tuesday.
Connecticut, Oregon and UCLA are 8-0.
Southern Mississippi and Wichita State are both 7-0.
20-Point Productions
Mario Boggan scored 24 points against Ball State in the Cowboys last outing, giving OSU its 13th 20-point performance of the season.
OSU didnt have a 20-point performer last season until the ninth game, when Curry scored 30 points against Mercer.
Last year, the Cowboys didnt have their second 20-point scorer until the 13th game.
Boggan has eight 20-point games this season, while Curry has four. Terrel Harris had his first of the season with 20 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Balanced Attack
Oklahoma State has had 46 double-figure performances in 11 games this season, an average of more than four per game.
Mario Boggan and JamesOn Curry have both reached double figures in all 11 games.
Freshman Obi Muonelo missed his first game of reaching double figures against Ball State. He sits at 10.
OSU has had five double-figure scorers in five different games this season: Florida Atlantic, Sam Houston State, Missouri State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Pepperdine.
Oklahoma State has had at least three double-figure scorers in all 11 games this season.
Series with the Volunteers
Oklahoma States first-ever meeting with Tennessee on the hardwood came on Dec. 22 of last year.
The Cowboys defeated the No. 23 ranked Volunteers 89-73 in the All-College Classic in Oklahoma City.
OSU had four players score in double figures, led Byron Eaton and JamesOn Curry who each had 16 points.
David Monds was named the MVP of the Pete Maravich game with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Mario Boggan added 14 points for Oklahoma State.
The Cowboys shot 63 percent as a team while limiting Tennessee to just 42.6 percent shooting.
OSU also outrebounded the Volunteers 38-25.
Tennessee was led by Chris Lofton who scored 21 points.
Suttons Start Historic
Coach Sean Sutton has won the first 11 games of his career, the most by a Cowboy head coach to start his Division I career in school history.
In fact, Sean is the first OSU coach to win his first five games. Three other coaches won their first four, but he is the first to win five or more.
Only 20 coaches have begun their Division I careers with 10 or more wins before their first loss.
Seans streak of 11 wins to start his career currently ranks tied for 11th in NCAA Division I history.
It is the fifth-longest streak in the last half-century behind Bill Hodges (33), Jamie Dixon (18), Bill Guthridge (17) and Todd Lickliter (13).
Oklahoma State Returns to Polls
Oklahoma State is ranked 15th in the most recent Associated Press poll and 17th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
The Cowboys moved up seven spots from 22nd last week to 15th this week.
It is the second-largest leap for OSU in the Associated Press poll in school history.
The Pokes moved from 24th on Jan. 14, 2003, to 13th on Jan. 21, 2003, a jump of 11 spots.
It marks the first return of the Cowboys to the polls since the end of the 2004-05 season.
During that string, OSU was ranked for 28 consecutive weeks in the AP poll, the second-longest streak in school history.
Oklahoma State plays five games this season against teams curently ranked in one of the top-25 polls: No. 2/2 Pittsburgh (in the All-College Classic), No. 11/12 Kansas (in Lawrence), No. 13/13 Texas A&M (in Stillwater and in College Station), and No. 23/NR Syracuse (won 72-68 in the Jimmy V Classic).
Four other opponents (Missouri, Missouri State, Texas, Tennessee) are receiving votes in one of the polls.
