Cowgirl Basketball To Begin Exhibition Play on Saturday

Oklahoma State's women's basketball team will begin its second season under head coach Kurt Budke on Saturday when it hosts the Oklahoma Flyers at 2 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The contest will be the first of two exhibition contests for the Cowgirls before getting the regular season underway on Nov. 10 against UC Riverside. OSU's other exhibition game will come on Nov. 6 when it plays host to East Central at 7 p.m.
Budke's squad also opened play last year against the Flyers, winning by a 90-72 count. A pair of current Cowgirls had solid outings in their collegiate debut as then-freshman Shaunte' Smith had an 11-point, 14-rebound effort, while junior college transfer Brisa Silva had 15 points on a 5-of-8 effort from beyond the 3-point line.
A trio of players with ties to the OSU program will be competing for the Flyers. Jamie Morgan and Melissa Steen played the 2002-03 season for the Cowgirls before finishing their careers at Cameron and Southern Nazarene, respectively. Four-year OSU letterwinner (1997-2001) Reba Johnson also dots the Flyers' roster.
