On tonight’s game
“I thought tonight was one of the most disappointing and most embarrassing performances we have had in the time that I have been at Oklahoma State. Our team didn’t play with very much emotion and we didn’t play with much energy throughout the game and the result was a very poor performance on our part.
“I don’t want to take anything away from Southern because they played much better than they did in their two previous games, but this is not the performance I would have expected and we have to play much better if we want to win this tournament this weekend in South Padre.”
On sophomore point guard Byron Eaton
“He didn’t turn the ball over in 29 minutes tonight. That is a real positive. He hit four out of five shots. He needs to continue to lose weight and get in better shape. I told him tonight that if this teams wants to make it to the NCAA Tournament and compete for a Big 12 Championship, he has to be a big factor.
“He showed last year late in the season what he is capable of and my confidence in him has not wavered one bit. I still think he can be a terrific point guard at this level. He just has to continue to work and get in better condition. I was proud of the fact that he didn’t turn the ball over tonight. I thought he got tired late and his defense wasn’t as good down the stretch, but at the offensive end I thought he played pretty well.”

“I am happy we are 5-0. It is the best we could be at this point. I expected us to be playing better and I certainly expected us to play better tonight. We’ve shown during these five games at times that we can be a good basketball team. There have been stretches of 10-12 minutes where we have played well and I feel like we could play with any team in the country. But there have also been stretches where I don’t know if we could beat a quality team. I am frustrated at this point because I really thought we would be playing more consistently.”
