Cowboys Conclude Homestand
Oklahoma State will play its fifth-straight home game and fourth in seven days as the Cowboys host Southern on Tuesday night.
It is the second round of the South Padre Island Invitational, where first and second-round games are played at home sites.
A total of eight teams will travel to South Padre Island, Texas, this weekend to play in the semifinals and finals.
OSU is coming off an 86-67 win over Sam Houston State Sunday afternoon in the Cowboys first-round game.
Southern is coming off a 92-39 loss at Wisconsin. The Jaguars are 0-2 this season.
OSU has never played Southern on the court.
This game will not be televised.
Game Rewind Highlights
Oklahoma State had five different players score in double figures, led by senior Mario Boggans 21 points, as the Cowboys handed Sam Houston State an 86-67 loss. It was Boggans third-straight 20-point game.
OSU trailed for much of the first half, falling behind by as many as six points in the period. After trailing by one with two minutes remaining in the period, the Cowboys went on a 7-0 run to go into halftime leading 35-29.
Oklahoma State opened the second half on a 22-5 run and never looked back, leading by as many as 24 before fading off and picking up the 19-point win.
Senior David Monds matched his career best with 17 points.
Junior Marcus Dove set a career high with five steals.
Sophomore guard Terrel Harris scored a season-best 18 points.
Boggan went 9-of-9 from the free-throw line. He has now made his last 18 shots from the stripe. He was also a perfect 9-of-9 against Texas Southern. He missed his last free-throw attempt against Northwestern State.
OSU shot 51.9 percent from the floor and scored 51 points in the second half, a single-period high for the season.
The Cowboys forced 23 turnovers while committing 17 of their own.
About Southern
Southern is 0-2 this season a pair of 50-point losses. The Jaguars lost to Georgia 97-37 in the season opener and fell to Wisconsin 92-39 on Sunday afternoon.
SU is allowing its oppponents to shoot 57.5 percent from the floor, including 15-of-34 (44.1 percent) from long range.
Southern has had just two double-figure scorers in its first two games. Deforest Riley-Smith scored 10 on Georgia, while Jazz Williams scored 10 against Wisconsin.
The Jaguars are shooting just 27.9 percent from the floor and 25.8 percent (8-of-31) from beyond the three-point arc.
Southern has committed 60 turnovers in its first two games and given up 88 points on those turnovers.
Looking Ahead
This weekend the Cowboys will travel to South Padre Island, Texas, to finish up the South Padre Island Invitational.
OSUs game vs. Sam Houston State and Tuesday nights game against Southern count as the first- and second-round games of the tournament.
Oklahoma State will face Auburn in the second game on Friday at 1:30 p.m. The game will be televised by CSTV.
Depending on the outcome of the game with Auburn, OSU will play either Wisconsin or Missouri State on Saturday. The winners play at 11:30 a.m. in a game televised by CSTV. The losers will play at 2 p.m. That game will not be televised.
Other teams traveling to SPI to play are Delaware State, East Tennessee State, Sam Houston State and Southern.
Whew!
Oklahoma State is playing its fourth games in seven days. It began on Nov. 15 with Northwestern State and concluds with Southern on Tuesday night.
As recent as the 2001-02 season, the Cowboys played five games in six days.
Oklahoma State hosted Cincinnati in the season opener on Nov. 16, and then hosted Austin Peay the following day before traveling to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the Las Vegas Tournament.
On Nov. 19, OSU faced Providence, followed by Siena College on Nov. 20. The Cowboys won the Las Vegas Tournament title by defeating TCU on Nov. 21.
Men of Steal
Oklahoma State has 51 steals in four games this season, an average of 12.8 per game.
That average leads the Big 12 Conference.
OSU reached double figures in steals vs. Sam Houston State for the fourth-consecutive game. The last time OSU had at least 10 steals in four-straight games was during the 2002-03 season when the Cowboys had at least 10 steals in eight-consecutive games from Dec. 8 until Jan. 11 of that season.
Four different Cowboys are ranked in the leagues top 12 for steals.
Marcus Dove is fourth in the league, averaging 2.8 per game.
Terrel Harris and Obi Muonelo are tied for fifth, averaging 2.5 steals per game.
Byron Eaton is 12th, averaging 2.3 steals per contest.
