Cowgirl Basketball Shuts Down Northwestern State, 79-43
November 19, 2006 | Cowgirl Basketball
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the year with a 79-43 victory over Northwestern State on Saturday night in front of 1,782 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
With the victory, the Cowgirls notched their first back-to-back wins to open a season since starting 2-0 during the 2001-02 season.
OSU scored 22 of the game's first 24 points while keeping the Lady Demons (0-2) in single digits in the scoring column until the 5:17 mark of the first half. Through the first 20 minutes, the Cowgirls held NSU to just six field goals and an 18 percent effort from the floor while taking a 41-17 advantage into the halftime locker room.
Junior guard Danielle Green led the way for the Cowgirls as she poured in 16 points on a 6-of-9 effort from the floor. The Philadelphia native was one off three OSU players to score in double figures and added seven rebounds and three steals.
“I was happy with the way (Danielle) Green played” Cowgirl head coach Kurt Budke said. “She was tremendous. She is the captain of this team because she deserves it. I do not see her letting up soon and we need nine other players who can play with the energy she plays with.”
Senior center Christian Hood recorded her first double-double of the season and the fourth of her career with her 13-point, 10-rebound effort off the bench.
In just her second contest as a Cowgirl, sophomore guard Natasha Doh was also productive off the bench, adding 11 points after hitting five of her seven shots and pulling down five rebounds.
Junior center Maria Cordero narrowly missed her second consecutive double-double after tallying nine points and 10 rebound before fouling out with 9:48 remaining in the contest.
OSU will return to action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. when it host Southern in Stillwater.
