Postgame Quotes vs. Northwestern State
Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006
Head Coach Sean Sutton
On tonight's game
“I told our guys that I was glad we won the game. I felt like we hung in there in a tight situation in a close game. Last year, we lost so many games like that. We had everything going against us down the stretch. They made a great comeback and made a lot of great shots. We were able to hang in there and win. So from that standpoint, I was proud of them. I didn't think that we played anything like we did on Friday night. The biggest difference in the second half was they just whipped our tails on the offensive glass. They had two offensive rebounds at halftime and finished the game with 17. They were more aggressive. I thought they were tougher getting to the basketball. It was good for us to be in a close game and come out on top.”
On Northwestern State
“They are a good team. I was impressed with them on film. You don't beat Utah State by 17 unless you have a good team. We did some things to help them along the way. We had 21 turnovers and we did not shoot the ball the way that we are capable of, but give their defense credit. They did a good job of mixing things up and they kept us off balance. They played hard. I think that they will win a lot of games this year.”
On the play of Mario Boggan and JamesOn Curry
“I think JamesOn was very motivated tonight because he felt like (last year's loss to Northwestern State) was the worst game of his entire career, not just at the collegiate level, but going back to high school. He stepped up and played well. I thought that Mario made a lot of key baskets down the stretch to keep us ahead. That is what you would expect from your two best players.”
OSU Player Quotes
Junior Guard JamesOn Curry
On the victory against Northwestern State
“Losing to this team last year was something we had to learn from. Even though we won, it is going to be a win on the chalkboard. We have to go look at film and go out and get better over this stretch. We might be a year older, but we are still learning. I think it was a good test for us to win in a close game. It taught us how to put the game away when we were on the ropes.”
On dishing out nine assists
“The confidence that we had in the game carried over. You have to have confidence making that drive and that pass, and confidence going into the middle. I think the confidence is carrying us over.”
Senior Forward Mario Boggan
On the victory against Northwestern State
“We looked pretty good in the first half. In the second half, we lost our intensity and did not rebound as much on the defensive end. We let them get back in. The point being was getting the win. We have to come back in practice and work on little things such as not committing turnovers.”
On getting out-rebounded
“(Northwestern State) played hard. They had five players crash the boards at both ends. It is not like we are a bad defensive team. We just did not focus on crashing the boards. We will come back in practice and work all of our mistakes out.”
On his performance
“It was hard to get into the flow of the game. I picked up two early fouls and it made me not play as physical as I wanted to. I could not do the things I normally do because I tried to adjust to the calls that were being made. Coming into the second half, I had three fouls, so I had to play a little soft so I would not pick up my fourth and fifth fouls. I could not do the things I normally do in the paint because I did not want to get called for a charge or a little foul they did not call earlier in the game. It is frustrating when you are in foul trouble because you can not play your game.”
