Puchkarov One Step Away from Main Draw at Prestigious Tournament

Oklahoma State junior Ivan Puchkarov won his second-round qualifying match to get closer to moving into the main draw at the prestigious 2006 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa.
Puchkarov, ranked 61st in the country, rolled for the second straight day as he knocked off Sacramento State's Anton Stryhas in the second round of qualifying 6-2, 6-3. On Wednesday, Puchkarov will face No. 113 Ryan Heller, of Michigan, with the winner advancing to the main draw, set to begin on Thursday.
In doubles qualifying, the tandem of Puchkarov and Artie Burmistrau, playing for the first time together, looked sharp in first round action as they beat Duke's Dylan Arnould and David Goulet, 8-2. In the second round, the pair fell to North Carolina's Lenny Gullan and David Stone, 8-5.
In consolation play, Tennessee's Adam Hubble defeated Oklahoma State sophomore Nathan Byrnes, 6-2, 6-0. Byrnes will join his older brother, Daniel, in the doubles main draw starting on Thursday.
The qualifying round of the 2006 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championship will conclude on Wednesday and the main draw will kick off Thursday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa. Cowboy senior Daniel Byrnes has already qualified for the individual main draw.
