Curry Named to Preaseason Wooden Award Watch List
October 25, 2006 | Cowboy Basketball
These top 50 candidates are comprised of returning players, although transfers, freshmen, medical redshirts and other players who excel throughout the season will be evaluated and considered for both the Midseason Top 30 list and the National Ballot. Players not on the preseason list are eligible for the midseason Top 30 and ballot.
Curry is one of just eight players on the list that were also considered for last year's Wooden Award. Joining him for the second-consecutive season are LSU's Glen Davis, Tyler Hansbrough of North Carolina, Tennessee's Chris Lofton, Nick Fazekas of Nevada, Texas Tech's Jarrius Jackson, Jared Dudley of Boston College and Wisconsin's Alando Tucker.
The Cowboy junior is also one of just seven players from the Big 12 Conference to be named to the list. Others include Tech's Jackson, Joseph Jones and Acie Law of Texas A&M, Colorado's Richard Roby, and Brandon Rush and Julian Wright of Kansas.
In January, the Wooden Award committee will release the midseason top 30 followed by the national ballot in early March. On Tuesday, March 27, the 10-player Wooden Award All-American Team will be announced.
The 2007 Award ceremony, which will include the presentation of the Men's and Women's Wooden Award, the Wooden Award All-American Teams, and the Legends of Coaching Award to recipient Gene Keady of Purdue University, will be held at The Los Angeles Athletic Club on April 7, 2007. The top five male and female finalists will be invited to Los Angeles for the awards ceremony and will receive a contribution from The Los Angeles Athletic Club for their university's general scholarship fund.
