Puchkarov Falls to Top Seed at Futures Event

Oklahoma State men's tennis player Ivan Puchkarov's run at the United States Tennis Association's Mansfield Futures Tournament at the Walnut Creek Country Club ended in the round of 16 Thursday.
Puchkarov faced the tournament's top-seeded Martin Fischer and fell to the 431st-ranked player in the world in a close, 6-4, 6-4, match.
“Ivan played well he just was up against the top seed in the tournament,” assistant coach Yevgen Bondarchuck said. “Ivan is playing great at this point of the season and now it is on the Central Region Championships.”
The junior won three matches in the qualifying rounds of the tournament to advance to the 32-player main draw on Wednesday, where he defeated Dennis Ziukovic, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, before falling to Fischer on Thursday.
He will now try to keep his outstanding fall rolling as Puchkarov and his Cowboy teammates compete at the Wilson/ITA Central Region Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa on Friday. Puchkarov is seeded third in the tournament while teammate Daniel Byrnes, an ITA All-American last year, is the top seed.
