Cowboy Tennis Completes First Day of Polo All-American

The Oklahoma State's men's tennis team completed the first day of competition at the prestigious 2006 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championship Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
The Polo All-American is the first of three national championships that take place throughout the year, the others being the ITA National Indoor Championship and the NCAA Individual Championship.
The tournament brings the top collegiate individuals and doubles tandems from around the country. Saturday was the first day of the tournament and featured the first two rounds of the prequalifying tournament. The prequalifying tournament feeds into the qualifying tournament that eventually feeds into the main draw of the 2006 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championship. The Cowboys had three individuals trying to make their way through the prequalifiyng rounds.
In the first round, sophomore Olexsander Kotsiuk was defeated by TCU's Cosmin Cotet 6-3, 6-3.
Senior Artie Burmistrau faired better in the first round as the Trnava, Slovakia native, downed Lamar's Mario Janjic in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 (6). However, Arizona State's Wes Miller bounced Burmistrau, 6-4, 6-4, in the second round.
Junior Jason Wright also tried to make his way through the prequalifying rounds. After receiving a first round bye, the Broken Arrow native, was beaten by Wichita State's Thiagodos Dos Santos 6-0, 6-2.
The tournament continues on Sunday with the final round of prequalifying action. On Monday, Nathan Byrnes and Ivan Puchkarov will try to join teammate Daniel Byrnes in next week's main draw by making there way through the qualifying rounds.
