Cowgirls Open Conference Home Slate Against Cyclones
January 06, 2006 | Cowgirl Basketball
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (6-6, 0-1) returns home on Saturday for its first Big 12 home contest when Iowa State (9-3, 0-1) comes calling at 2 p.m. Both squads will be looking for their first Big 12 victory of the season after OSU opened with a 74-52 loss at Texas A&M and the Cyclones opened with an 87-67 setback at home to Oklahoma during the midweek.
Scouting the Cyclones
The Cyclones' loss to the Sooners was their worst at home since 2003 and snapped a 21-game winning streak at home. Head coach Bill Fennelly's squad is 1-1 in true road games this season after winning at Drake and losing at Minnesota. Junior Lyndsey Medders is one of four players scoring in double figures and leads the way at 15.8 points per game. She has also dished a team-high 112 assists. Senior Brittany Wilkins checks in as the second-leading scorer at 14.1 points per outing and is grabbing a team-best 9.7 rebounds per game. ISU is holding its opponents to a league-best .329 field goal percentage and is also tops in the conference with 7.6 made 3-pointers per game. The Cowgirls have won two consecutive over the Cyclones in Stillwater and hold a 23-18 advantage overall in the series. ISU posted a 90-65 win over OSU last year in Ames, while the Cowgirls won the last meeting in Stillwater, 74-59, two years ago.
Up Next
OSU will head to Waco, Texas to take on the defending national champion Baylor Lady Bears on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
What 2 Watch 4
An OSU win would snap an eight-game skid against Big 12 schools ... a win would be OSU's seventh of the season, matching its total last year ... a note to fans, Christian Hood will be signing postgame autographs at the welcome center in the east lobby following the contest.
