Cowboys Host Huskers
Oklahoma State entertains the Nebraska Huskers on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 7:05 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Cowboys are 12-8 overall this season and 2-4 in Big 12 Conference action following a 92-90 overtime loss at Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers are 13-6 overall and 3-3 in league play following a 65-52 win over Missouri in Lincoln on Saturday afternoon.
On Television
Tuesday's game will be broadcast live as part of the Big 12 Conference's television package with ESPN Regional. Dave Armstrong will handle the play-by-play duties while Chris Piper will provide expert analysis. It is the fourth of seven ESPN Regional games for the Cowboys this season. The game will be aired on KOCB TV-34 in Oklahoma City and Stillwater. In Tulsa, the game will be on NBC affiliate KJRH Channel 2. The game will also be televised nationally as part of the ESPN FullCourt package.
Sutton's 1,100th Game
Saturday's game at Texas Tech was Coach Eddie Sutton's 1,100th career game coached. He began his career in 1969 at Creighton with an 84-64 win over Wisconsin-Oshkosh and currently ranks eighth in most games coached all-time in NCAA history. The game at Kansas State on Saturday will be his 1,102nd, tying him with Norman Stewart. OnWednesday, Feb. 8, the Cowboys will host Oklahoma in Coach Sutton's 1,103rd career game. That will tie him with Henry Iba for the sixth-most games coached in NCAA Division I history.
About the Huskers
Nebraska is 13-6 overall this season and 3-3 in Big 12 Conference action. The Huskers are 1-3 on the road, with their only win at Kansas State on Jan. 11, a 57-42 victory over the Wildcats. NU is led by the senior duo of Wes Wilkinson (12.3 points and 7.1 per game) and Jason Dourisseau (10.7 ppg, 6.8 rpg). The Huskers third-leading scorer, Joe McCray, has been suspended indefinitely. As a team, Nebraska is shooting 41.3 percent from the floor, but 35.3 percent from beyond the three-point arc. The Huskers are shooting 64 percent from the free-throw line. Nebraska is coached by Barry Collier, in his sixth year in charge of the program with a 83-83 record. He is in his 17th season overall with a 279-215 mark.
Series History with Nebraska
Nebraska leads the all-time series with Oklahoma State, which dates back to the 1926-27 season 60-49. OSU leads the series in games played in Stillwater by a 31-14 count. Since the Big 12 formed in 1996-97, the Cowboys have a 5-4 edge in the series. Coach Eddie Sutton is 15-8 against the Huskers as head coach of the Cowboys, and has an 18-9 mark against NU overall including a 3-1 record while at Arkansas. Nebraska won the meeting last year 74-67, ending a three-game streak by OSU. The Pokes have won five of the last seven meetings, including the last three inside GIA.
Cowboys on a Three-Game Skid
Oklahoma State has lost its last three games, including two in overtime by a combined four points. The last time OSU lost three-consecutive games was towards the end of the 2002-03 season. The Cowboys lost three straight  vs. Texas Tech, at Kansas and at Colorado  from Feb. 24 to March 5. OSU ended the skid with a 77-52 win over Texas A&M in the season finale in Gallagher-Iba Arena. This is just the fifth time in the Sutton era that OSU has lost three-consecutive games. The longest string of straight losses under Sutton is four during the 1991-92 season. That year, OSU finished with a 28-8 record and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Miscellaneous Notes
Since his one-game suspension against Arkansas State on Dec. 31, Torre Johnson is averaging 16.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. He is shooting 62.7 percent (47 of 75) from the floor and 20 of 24 (83.3 percent) from the free-throw line. He is averaging 26 minutes per game despite starting just one of those seven games.
Over that same seven-game span, JamesOn Curry has struggled, shooting just 31.8 percent (28 of 88) from the field, including a dismal 7 of 36 (19.4 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. However, he is still averaging 11 points per game thanks to a 14-of-16 performance from the free-throw line. Excluding the Texas game, JamesOn is averaging five assists over the last four games.
The loss of Marcus Dove is even more apparent when looking at the statistics. Before Dove's injury, OSU was allowing just 62.7 points per game and forcing an average of 19.6 turnovers per contest. Since his injury, the Cowboys are giving up 72.1 points per game and forcing just 13.9 miscues per contest. Oklahoma State's steals per game has dropped from nearly 10 per game to just six per contest. OSU is 4-5 without Dove on the floor.
