Cowgirl Basketball Falls At Texas, 60-46

The Oklahoma State women's basketball team dropped its eighth consecutive game on Saturday afternoon, losing 60-46 to Texas in front of 5,261 fans inside the Erwin Events Center.

The Cowgirls (6-13 overall, 0-8 Big 12) were hindered by a first half that saw them shoot just 25 percent and score only 17 points. However, Texas (11-7, 5-3) did not fare much better, putting up just 24 points of its own.

Junior Brisa Silva provided the offense for OSU, scoring 10 points in the half on her way to matching her career-high point total. The Sinaloa, Mexico native poured in a game-best 17 points to go along with five assists and four steals. With her three 3-pointers in the game, Silva moved into a tie for 15^th on the school's single-season list for made 3-pointers with 39.

The Longhorns used a 9-2 spurt at the beginning of the second half to build its lead to 12 points and pushed the margin to 16 on two occasions.

The Cowgirls got back-to-back buckets from Whitney Pegram with 4:22 remaining to get back within single digits, but seven consecutive Texas points sealed the outcome.

Freshman Shaunte' Smith recorded her third career double-double for the Cowgirls, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while junior Destanie Sykes matched her career high with 12 rebounds.

The Cowgirls will return to action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. when they renew the Bedlam Series with in-state rival Oklahoma in Norman.
