Cowgirl Basketball Rolls To Fourth Consecutive Victory
January 12, 2006 | Cowgirl Basketball
The Cowgirls (5-4) sprinted out to a 39-13 lead in the first half in large part due to their ability to convert 14 Tiger (2-8) turnovers into 18 points. For the game, OSU's defense turned 28 Memphis miscues into 39 points, while holding the Tigers to a 30 percent shooting night.
Memphis' 13 points in the first half were the fewest scored by an OSU opponent since the Cowgirls held Oral Roberts to 13 points in the first half of their contest on Nov. 25, 1996.
Junior Whitney Pegram continued her dominance at the offensive end of the floor, finishing with her sixth 20-point outing of the season after pouring in a game-high 23 points. The Silver Lake, Kan., native knocked down 10 of her 16 shots from the field in just 20 minutes of action.
Pegram was one of five players to finish in double figures in the scoring column. Junior Vivi Nascimento added 13 points, while OSU freshmen Taylor Hardeman and Shaunte' Smith each scored 12 points. The duo also combined for 13 assists and 12 rebounds for the Cowgirls.
Junior Amanda Foster produced her best offensive night as a Cowgirl, scoring a career-high 12 points on the evening.
For the second consecutive contest junior Destanie Sykes reached double figures in the rebounding column with 12 boards, while fellow junior Brisa Silva dished out 10 assists to go along with nine points.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Wichita, Kan., to take on Wichita State at 7 p.m.
