Seven Former Cowboys Participating in NBA Summer Leagues
July 15, 2005 | Cowboy Basketball
Seven former Cowboy basketball players are participating in the NBA summer leagues looking to find a spot on an NBA roster. 2004 graduate Tony Allen and 2005 graduate Joey Graham are the only drafted players playing in the summer leagues. The Cowboys looking to find a spot on a team as a free agent are 2005 graduates John Lucas III and Stephen Graham, 2003 graduates Melvin Sanders and Cheyne Gadson and 2002 graduate Maurice Baker.
NBA summer leagues feature rosters that are different from the regular season. A team's summer league roster usually features a mix of rookies that the team just drafted, a few other players signed to that team, and various undrafted players and free agents looking to get signed to that team or any other team. There are four official NBA summer leagues for teams to participate in. The Reebok Las Vegas Summer Basketball League, runs from July 6 - 15 at the Cox Pavilion Basketball in Las Vegas, Nevada. Participating teams include Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Golden State, LA Clippers, New Jersey, New Orleans, New York, Orlando, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento and Washington. The Southern California summer pro basketball league, runs from July 8 through July 23 and takes place at The Pyramid in Long Beach, California, near Los Angeles. Participating teams include Dallas, LA Lakers, Memphis, Miami and Toronto. The Salt Lake City Rocky Mountain Revue summer basketball league, runs from July 14 through July 22 and takes place at the Salt Lake Community College's Life Time Activities Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The following NBA summer league teams are playing in the 2005 Rocky Mountain Revue: Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, San Antonio, Seattle and Utah. Finally the Minnesota Summer Basketball League, runs from July 15 through July 19 and takes place in the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
