Van Elden, Bohunicky Eliminated From NCAA Tournament
May 25, 2005 | Cowboy Tennis
Oklahoma State's Mark Van Elden and Tomas Bohunicky each suffered first round losses today in the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Tournament at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.
Van Elden squared off against Georgia's 21st-ranked John Isner. The senior took early leads in each set, but the 6-foot-9 Isner proved too much, winning 6-4, 6-4. He ends the season with a 20-8 record.
Bohunicky was matched up with No. 9 Sven Swinnen of Oregon. The junior from Trnava, Slovakia, was shut out in the first set, then came up short in a second set tie-break, losing 6-0, 7-6(3). He finishes the year at 11-14.
Van Elden will join sophomore Daniel Byrnes to play in tomorrow's doubles tournament. The pair will take on Stanford's second-ranked duo of Sam Warburg and KC Corkery in the first round. The two teams met earlier this year, with Stanford holding a 6-5 lead when the match was suspended.
