Cowgirl Golfers finish eighth at NCAA Championships

Cowgirl golfer Annie Thurman-Young tied her collegiate best round with a 68 during the final day of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships here Friday afternoon, leading
Thurman-Young tied for eighth place individually, her highest finish at the NCAAs in four attempts. Her 291 four-round total ties her top individual score set at last year's NCAA Tournament.
As a team,
Duke won the team title with a four-round total of 1170, led by individual medalist Anna Grzebien. UCLA gave the Blue Devils a run for their money, but in the end the Bruins fell five strokes short of Duke. The Auburn Tigers finished third at 1176, while Pepperdine finished fourth at 1179.
The only blemish on Thurman-Young's round was a bogey on the par-four 14th hole. She birdied four holes, tying for the best round ever by a Cowgirl at the NCAA Championships. Eva Dahloff set the mark in the first round of the 1988 Championships, and current Cowgirl Karin Sjodin equaled that mark in third round of last year's tournament.
Thurman-Young ends her career with the most prolific single season in school history. Her 73.06 strokes per round average this season is the lowest mark in the Cowgirl record books. She finishes her career with a 75.07 stroke average over 139 career rounds, ranking third in school history.
