April 27, 2005 | Cowgirl Basketball
Seward County (Kan.) Community College product Whitney Pegram signed a National Letter of Intent and will continue her career under former SCCC head coach and current OSU associate head coach Jim Littell.
“Whitney brings us needed height and scoring ability inside,” Budke said. “She is a good shot blocker and gives us a legitimate presence from 15 feet and in.”
“She has excellent skills and has the ability to step in and be an impact player for our program right away,” Littell added.
A 6-4 center, Pegram was the Lady Saints' leading scorer last season at 16.8 points per game and added seven rebounds and 2.8 blocks per contest. She finished eighth nationally in field goal percentage at 60 percent and her 637 points were the fourth-best season total in school history.
A native of Silver Lake, Kansas, Pegram transferred to Seward County after one season at Drake University and promptly led the Lady Saints to a 35-3 record, both the Jayhawk West Conference and Region VI titles as well as a fifth-place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament.
Pegram was tabbed as a first-team WBCA/Kodak All-American, a first-team NJCAA All-American and the Region VI Most Valuable Player. A first-team All-Jayhawk West selection, she was named the most valuable player of the Las Vegas Invitational as well as the NJCAA Player of the Week on Feb. 1.
