Cowboy Basketball Inks Junior College Guard

Oklahoma State has signed Jamaal Brown, a junior college point guard at the College of Southern Idaho, Coach Eddie Sutton and his staff announced today. Brown is the second junior college player to sign with OSU this week.
A 6-0, 185 pound point guard, Brown was named an honorable mention All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association this past season after leading his team to the national semifinals at the NJCAA national tournament. He was named to the all-tournament team at nationals, as CSI defeated Chipola College, 84-70, in the third-place game. CSI lost to Paris Junior College, the eventual juco national champs, 70-69, in the semifinals.
Brown averaged 15 points and 7.9 assists per game in his only year at the College of Southern Idaho. His 283 assists ranked ninth in the NJCAA. He was also named first-team All-Region 18 in 2005 and second-team All-Region 18 in 2003 while at UVSC.
After a successful prep career at Chicago's Westinghouse High School, Brown began his collegiate career at Utah Valley State College. In the final game of the regular season, he scored a career-high 36 points against CSI, his future school. He took the 2003-04 season as a redshirt year, and then continued his junior college career at CSI.
Last season, Brown had 13 double-figure assists games, including a career-high 14 on two occasions. He nearly had a triple-double with 22 points, 14 assists and eight steals -- a career high -- against Scottsdale Community College on Dec. 18, 2004.
Ranked the No. 3 point guard in the junior college ranks by hoopmasters.com, Brown was also recruited by Connecticut, Illinois and USC, among others.
