The 6-7, 210 pound sophomore forward at Garden City Community College was a National Junior College Athletic Association first-team All-American last season after averaging 21.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He led his team to a 23-10 record last year after posting a 23-9 mark his freshman season.
Johnson scored a career high 34 points in a game against Trinidad State last season, and grabbed 11 rebounds as well. He had three 30-point games while at Garden City, and 30 games of 20 or more points in his two-year career. Johnson grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds vs. Labette in the final game of the regular season, and finished his career with 13 double-doubles in points and rebounds.
Johnson holds the school records for most points in a career at Garden City with 1,306. He also holds the school records for most field goals made in a game (15), season (286) and career (547). He led the 2005 Region VI Tournament in scoring (23.7 ppg), rebounding (14.7 rpg) and blocked shots (2.7 bpg).
A native of Milwaukee, Wis., Johnson attended Juneau High School. He was named the Freshman of the Year in the Jayhawk Conference in 2004, and was first-team all-Region VI in both 2004 and 2005. He averaged 19.2 points per contest as a frosh, shooting 59.7 percent from the floor.
Johnson chose the Cowboys over interest from Arizona, Auburn, Cincinnati and Tennessee.
