Cowgirls Knock Off Second Straight Ranked Opponent, 4-3

The Cowgirls (8-13, 4-6) picked up the doubles point and split the six singles matches en route to the win.
“Winning the doubles point takes so much pressure off a team,” said head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “It is much easier to play when you aren't behind going into singles. We didn't play perfect today, but we played good enough to win. We have really played good tennis over the course of this week.”
Missouri (13-6, 4-5) drew first blood by picking up a win at No. 1 doubles. Cowgirl sophomores Lauren Simmons and Jennifer Poskitt evened the doubles point with an 8-6 win at the third position.
Junior Sandra Blajer and freshman Jessica Collins gave OSU the early team lead after rallying to win No. 2 doubles, 9-7, against Hana Kraftova and Charlotte Bellis.
Collins extended the Cowgirl advantage by picking up the straight set, 6-1, 6-2, decision over Erika Josbena at No. 5 singles, her third win of the week.
“Every day somebody steps up for us,” Lubicz-Majewski said. “For the second match in a row, Jessica tallied a big win. Every one of our girls is playing well and contributing for us right now.”
The Tigers took their first lead of the afternoon after tallying wins at the No. 1, 2 and 6 positions, respectively.
Simmons tied the match score at 3-3 with her third victory of the week, a 6-3, 7-6(0), straight set decision over Kraftova at No. 3 singles. Poskitt sealed the Cowgirl win minutes later with a 6-1, 7-5 win at the fourth position.
“Jennifer and Lauren are really playing well for us,” Lubicz-Majewski said. “They were forced to move up in the lineup and have been some of our most consistent performers all year.”
OSU returns to action on April 23 when they host No. 12 Baylor at the DeBois Tennis Center at 11 a.m. The Bears (18-4, 9-0) won last year's meeting in Waco, Texas, 7-0.
