Cowgirls Begin Play In Big 12 Tournament Against Nebraska
March 06, 2005 | Cowgirl Basketball
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (7-19 overall, 2-14 Big 12) will begin postseason play on Tuesday night when its takes on Nebraska (16-12, 8-8) in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City. The eleventh-seeded Cowgirls and No. 6 seed Huskers are set for an 8:30 p.m. tip. OSU will be looking to end its current six-game slide and avenge its 73-71 loss earlier this season to Nebraska in Stillwater. The winner will advance to take on the third-seeded Kansas State Wildcats on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. inside Municipal Auditorium.
THE COWGIRLS AT THE BIG 12 TOURNAMENT
The Cowgirls own a 6-8 record all-time in the tournament, advancing to the semifinal round on one occasion (1998). The lone meeting between OSU and Nebraska came in the second round of the Cowgirls' run as they prevailed with a 83-69 win to advance to the semifinals. OSU is 1-2 in the event under the direction of third-year head coach Julie Goodenough.
THE COWGIRLS AS A NO. 11 SEED
This season marks the third time in nine seasons OSU will enter play as the No. 11 seed. Both times, the Cowgirls have posted a first-round win before exiting in the second round. In 1999, OSU defeated Oklahoma before being eliminated by Kansas in Round Two. The Cowgirls upset Missouri two years ago in their first postseason contest under head coach Julie Goodenough before losing to Texas Tech.
