Cowboy Netters Corral Mustangs, 5-2

Junior Tomas Bohunicky and sophomore Artie Burmistrau got things started at No. 3 doubles with an 8-5 win over Gwinyai Chingoka and David Kuczer to improve their record to 13-2 on the year.
After senior Boris Kuharic and junior Felipe Diaz dropped an 8-5 decision at the second position, senior Mark Van Elden and sophomore Daniel Byrnes had the doubles point riding on their shoulders. The duo went into a tie-break with Federico Murgier and Paul McNaughton and emerged with a 9-8 (7-5) victory to give OSU a 1-0 advantage.
“It was a tough match, with Tomas going three sets and Daniel and Artie winning tie-breaks,” said head coach James Wadley. “The doubles point was very important for us to win.”
The Cowboys (13-4 overall, 3-1 Big 12) continued the scoring with a trio of straight set victories in singles play. Kuharic won his team leading 13th singles match of the year with a 7-5, 6-3 decision over Chingoka at the No. 3 position.
Byrnes won his 12th consecutive match by defeating Henrik Soderberg, 7-6, 6-4, at the No. 4 position. Burmistrau then took out Peter Oredsson at the No. 5 spot, 7-6, 6-3.
Bohunicky came out on top of the lone three set match of the afternoon, coming back to beat Murgier, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
OSU returns home to host a pair of conference foes this weekend, beginning with No. 27 Texas at 2 p.m. Saturday and wrapping up with No. 15 Texas A&M at the same time Sunday.
