Recommended Head Coach Kurt Budke Quotes
On getting the opportunity at Oklahoma State:
“Every move I have made in my career was for an opportunity to come home to Big 12 country. I grew up in the middle of the Big Eight, Salina, Kan. Now to be able to coach at a place that has Mr. Iba and Coach Sutton, two of the greatest legends in the history of basketball, and I get to be on the same floor with them. I am truly humbled today.”
On starting over:
“My wife reminded me that yesterday was Easter. She wanted to remind me that this is a celebration of a new beginning. That is how I want to look at Oklahoma State women's basketball. This is a new beginning, and I do not want to talk about the past. I am sure the players and coaches gave their best over the last couple of years, but that is over.”
On coaching in the Big 12:
“I think that the Big 12 is the toughest league in the country from top to bottom. Other conferences have one more national championships, but this conferences is the best from top to bottom. I am not saying we are going to win the Big 12, but I am saying is that you are going to start taking pride in this program. You are going to be proud of these girls when they put on that Oklahoma State uniform. You are going to be proud of these girls and how they represent our community. You are going to be proud of these girls as student-athletes. You are going to be proud of these girls whether they win or lose. You are going to see 40 minutes of fight in every game we play.”
On how his team will play:
“We are going to be the first team on the floor. We are going to be the first team to loose balls and rebounds. If it is enough to win then we will win. If it is not enough then you will enjoy watching these girls play. We are going to win. It may take baby steps to get there, but we are going to get there together.”
On coaching in Gallagher-Iba:
“Coach Sutton has made Gallagher-Iba Arena one of the toughest places to play in the country. A place that nobody wants to play, ever. Nobody wants to come in here and play, it is the most feared gym in America. We are going to get there too. There is a fan base out there that I know is dying to come in here and follow women.”
