Cowboy Netters Defeat No. 27 Wake Forest, 4-1

In doubles play, junior Tomas Bohunicky and sophomore Artie Burmistrau extended their season record to 8-0 with an 8-3 win over Liron Strauss and Andrew Hamar at the No. 3 position.
After the Cowboys (8-2) dropped the No. 2 match, senior Mark Van Elden and sophomore Daniel Byrnes fought off defeat by breaking Wake Forest's serve and then winning the match in a tiebreak, 9-8 (8-6), to win the doubles point.
In singles action, Van Elden made short work of Derrick Spice at No. 1 singles, winning 6-4, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Bohunicky upset 71st-ranked Todd Paul in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6.
Kuharic moved down to the No. 4 spot for the Pokes and responded with a convincing 7-6, 6-3 win over 77th-ranked Brett Ross.
“Tomas played really well, and Boris did a super job after moving to the No. 4 position,” head coach James Wadley said. “All of our guys rose to the occasion against a quality team.”
The only point for Wake Forest came at No. 5 singles after Diaz went down with an ankle sprain while leading 2-0 in the first set.
Oklahoma State returns to action on March 9 for the home opener against Wichita State at 2 p.m.
