February 24, 2005 | Cowgirl Basketball
The Aggies (14-11 overall, 4-10 Big 12) used a hot-shooting first half to build a 43-24 lead heading into the break. A&M, which entered the contest shooting just 28.5 percent from the 3-point line, drilled six of its eight attempts from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes and connected on 63 percent of its shots overall.
OSU (7-17, 2-12) hit 50 percent from the floor in the first half, but was marred by 11 turnovers that resulted in 18 Aggie points on its way to a 43-24 deficit at the break.
The Cowgirls got a 3-pointer from Catherria Turner to cut the Aggie lead to one at the 13:01 mark before Katy Pounds came off the bench to key a 15-1 A&M run with a pair of treys and help the Aggies sprint out to a double-figure advantage they would sustain for the remainder of the game.
The lead swelled to 28 on a pair of occasions in the second half as the Aggies held the Cowgirls scoreless for the opening three minutes of the second half.
In a matchup of two of the league's top freshman, the Cowgirls' Taleesha Conder scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half to go with six rebounds and three steals, while A&M's Morenike Atunrase finished with 12 points and three boards.
OSU senior Nina Stone led all scorers with 16 points and dished out a career-high eight assists on the night.
The Aggies went on to finish 9-of-18 from the 3-point line and shot 48 percent overall from the floor in the contest. Three A&M players reached double digits in the scoring column, led by Charlette Castile's 15 points off the bench.
The Cowgirls will return to action this Saturday at 7 p.m. when they travel to Lubbock, Texas to take on the Texas Tech Lady Raiders
