Cowgirl Basketball Snaps Losing Skid With WIn Over Kansas
February 10, 2005 | Cowgirl Basketball
The Cowgirls (7-13 overall, 2-8 Big 12) overcame a 29-25 halftime deficit, marking just the second time in 14 tries OSU has emerged victorious after trailing at the break.
Kansas (10-11, 3-7) dominated the interior in the first half, outrebounding OSU 26-11, including an 11-1 margin on the offensive glass, on their way to 10 second-chance points and the four-point advantage.
The Cowgirls held the Jayhawks to one point through the first seven minutes of the second half to build an eight-point lead before KU began chipping away and jumped out in front, 48-47, before OSU responded with a 7-0 run to regain the lead for good.
Freshman Taleesha Conder came up big down the stretch for the Cowgirls, converting a 3-point play to extend the lead to five and hitting a pair of free throws with 37 seconds left to push the margin to 55-52. The Alva, Okla., native finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds to record her second career double-double.
After a pair of free throws from the Jayhawks' Erica Hallman, sophomore Christian Hood knocked down a pair of her own with 29 ticks remaining to provide the final margin.
KU had one final chance to send the game to overtime, but a 3-point attempt by Hallman was off the mark and the Jayhawks were unable to get another shot off before time expired.
Senior Nina Stone scored 13 points for the Cowgirls, while Hood added 12 points and seven rebounds.
OSU will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Waco, Texas to take on Baylor at 1 p.m.
