Cowboy Tennis Ready for Busy Weekend
February 10, 2005 | Cowboy Tennis
The Cowboys are coming off a 5-1 victory over Memphis on Feb. 4. They won five of six singles matches and got impressive performances from Mark Van Elden, Artie Burmistrau and Felipe Diaz, who each won in straight sets.
Indiana State is 0-2 on the season after dropping a 4-3 decision to Iowa last Saturday. The Sycamores, however, are the coaches' preseason pick to win the Missouri Valley Conference championship.
Oklahoma State owns a 3-0 advantage in the all-time series against ISU, with the last matchup being a 6-1 OSU win in 1998.
No. 31 Rice is 2-1 on the year with its only setback being a 4-3 loss at the hands of Nebraska. The Cowboys have never lost to Rice in five matches, most recently staging a 4-3 upset victory last season when the Owls were ranked sixth in the country.
The weekend matches will be Oklahoma State's final two before traveling to Chicago for the ITA National Indoor Team Championships from Feb. 17-20. The Cowboys are the No. 15 seed in the event, which features the nation's top 16 teams. They will take on No. 2 UCLA at noon on Feb. 17.
