Cowgirl Basketball Rolls to Victory in Non-Conference Finale

The Cowgirls (6-5) set new team marks for made three-point field goals (13) and blocked shots (18), while just missing tying their widest margin of victory by one point.
For the Lady Panthers (1-9), the loss was their ninth consecutive and dropped them to 0-2 all-time against OSU.
Individually, junior Whitney Pegram, who played just 19 minutes on the night, set the new school standard for blocks with 10 and added 12 points and six rebounds in the process. The Silver Lake, Kan., native, who tied the mark earlier this year with six blocks against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, set the new record in the first half with seven rejections in just 12 minutes of action.
Fellow junior Brisa Silva also added her name to the OSU record book. The Sinaloa, Mexico native's 13 assists broke the previous best of 12 set by Liz Brown on Jan. 2, 1989.
In addition to Pegram and Silva, junior Vivi Nascimento posted a double-double on the evening, finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds while recording seven assists and seven steals off the bench.
All nine Cowgirls scored in the game, six of which reached double figures.
At the end of the first half, OSU led 53-22 after hitting 53 percent of its shots, including seven of its 12 attempts from beyond the arc. The Cowgirls cracked the 50-point mark again in the second half on the way to their first 100-point game since scoring 101 points against Richmond on Dec. 22, 1996.
Freshman Shaunte' Smith led OSU with a career-high 19 points. Silva and junior Christian Hood both tied their career highs with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Freshman Taylor Hardeman added 10 points, while sophomore Nataly Gray scored a career-high nine points on a 3-of-5 effort from the three-point line.
Prairie View's Tanesha Barefield led all scorers on the night with 22 points.
The Cowgirls will begin Big 12 play on Jan. 4 when they travel to Texas A&M for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
