Cowgirls Begin Regular Season Against Texas State
November 17, 2005 | Cowgirl Basketball
The Kurt Budke era officially begins on Saturday afternoon as Oklahoma State's women's basketball team is set for a 2 p.m. tip against Texas State inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Cowgirls are fresh off a pair of exhibition wins over the Oklahoma Flyers and Panhandle State, while the Bobcats come to town after an 83-52 exhibition loss to Everyone's Internet.
About Texas State
Saturday's contest in Stillwater will mark the season opener for Texas State. The Bobcats initial action of the season came on Nov. 10 with the aforementioned loss to Everyone's Internet. TSU returns three starters from last year's squad that produced a third-place finish in the Southland Conference standings. The Bobcats finished 14-14 a season ago, including a pair of contests against Big 12 foes. TSU lost, 76-57, at Oklahoma and fell, 73-55, at Texas A&M. OSU is 2-0 all-time against Texas State (formerly Southwest Texas State). OSU won the first meeting during the 1974 AIAW Regional Tournament by a 68-59 count and the last meeting, which took place in Stillwater on Dec. 19, 1997. The Cowgirls prevailed in that matchup, 75-62.
What 2 Watch 4
A win would mark the second consecutive season OSU has started the year with a victory ... a win would be the squad's third consecutive victory to open the home schedule ... a win would improve OSU's all-time record in season openers to 24-9 and record in home openers to 28-5.
Out Of The Starting Block
Starting with the 1973-74 season, the Cowgirls own a 23-9 record overall in season openers and have tallied a 27-5 record in home openers. OSU has won its last two home openers, defeating Nicholls State, 83-49, last season. Two years ago, the Cowgirls stunned No. 24 Michigan State, 62-60, to begin their home slate.
