OSU Set To Battle Nebraska
January 31, 2005 | Cowgirl Basketball
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (6-11, 1-6) will close out a stretch of three consecutive home games on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when the Nebraska Cornhuskers (12-7, 4-3) come calling. The Cowgirls will look to bounce back from a heartbreaking 67-65 loss on Saturday to Baylor, while the Huskers come to town fresh off a 59-48 win last weekend over Kansas in Lincoln.
ABOUT NEBRASKA
With its win on Saturday against the Jayhawks, Nebraska snapped a three-game losing streak and ran its home record to 10-1 on the season. The Huskers have lost five of their six true road games this season, including their last two, with their lone road victory coming at Missouri. Sophomore guard Kiera Hardy enters the game ranked second in the Big 12 in scoring at 19.3 points per outing and has upped her average to a league-leading 22.9 points in conference games. Sophomore Jessica Gerhart is second on the squad at 10.6 points per game and is the team's leading rebounder, pulling 5.9 caroms per game. Senior Jina Johansen paces the Huskers with 116 assists and her 6.1 assists per game average is currently good for second in the Big 12.
OSU AND NEBRASKAÂTHE SERIES
The Huskers have won 27 of the 50 all-time meetings between the two schools after winning the last two contests. The Cowgirls have won 15 of the 21 meetings in Stillwater, but have lost two of the last three inside Gallagher-Iba Arena, including a 73-59 loss in 2003. Nebraska won last year's meeting, 64-41, in Lincoln.
WHAT 2 WATCH 4
A win would move OSU to 2-1 this season against Big 12 North opponents ... the Cowgirls will play four of their next five games against schools from the North ... Tuesday's matchup will pit the league's top two workhorses against each other as Jina Johansen and Nina Stone rank 1-2 in the Big 12 in minutes played per game.
