Cowboy Tennis Ranked High in Preseason
September 13, 2004 | Cowboy Tennis
Van Elden's ranking is the highest preseason ranking ever for an Oklahoma State male. The senior is also rated 21st in doubles with partner Daniel Byrnes, who was the 2004 Big 12 Freshman of the Year.
“Mark is a tremendous talent, as good as OSU has ever had,” head coach James Wadley said. “When he is at his best he has proven he can win against anyone in the country.”
Junior Tomas Bohunicky comes into the rankings at 82nd. The Trnava, Slovakia, native played the 2004 season in the No. 3 singles spot for the Pokes.
“Tomas is improving every day. He should step in and have a great year,” Wadley said.
The third Cowboy to be recognized is senior Boris Kuharic, who enters the season ranked 114th.
“Boris has won some huge matches for us in the last two years. He will challenge for the top spots in our lineup,” Wadley said.
Oklahoma State's trio is among nine Big 12 players in the rankings, and the only Oklahoma players ranked.
The Cowboys kick off the fall season this weekend at the Texas Fall Tournament in Austin, Texas.
