April 09, 2004 | Cowboy Tennis
Baylor boasts a 20-2 record with the only losses coming against seventh-ranked Mississippi and No. 13 USC. The Bears have wins over third-ranked Florida, No. 9 UCLA and seventh-ranked Stanford and have won 12 consecutive matches.
Baylor is undefeated in conference play at 5-0 and is coming off of a 7-0 defeat over No. 28 Texas. Texas handed OSU its only Big 12 loss 4-3 on Mar. 27.
The Bears are led by Benedikt Dorsch and Benjamin Becker. Dorsch plays the No. 1 position and is ranked third in the nation, while Becker is ranked No. 10 in the second spot. Both players are ranked in the Top 25 in doubles as well. Dorsch plays alongside Matija Zgaga and are ranked No. 20. Becker and Matias Marin are 12-1 and ranked No. 25.
OSU is 13-2 overall and 2-1 in Big 12 action. The Cowboys are coming off of consecutive 7-0 victories over Colorado and Nebraska. Mark Van Elden has been the ace of the Cowboys lineup all season and is currently 15-0.
“Baylor is the best team in our conference,” head coach James Wadley said. “Their top two players are ranked in the top 10 and they have two doubles teams ranked as well. We will have to play our very best to have a chance, but I think our guys are up to the challenge.”
Oklahoma State and Baylor met twice last season. OSU did not register a single point on the Bears losing 7-0 in the regular season before falling 4-0 in the Big 12 Championship match.
