Cowboys Awarded Two Singles Titles and One Doubles Title

Byrnes, a freshman from Melbourne, Australia, went 6-1 in his first season of Big 12 competition with his only loss coming to Baylor's Reiner Neurohr. Byrnes has spent the entire season playing at the No. 5 position and has compiled a 15-5 overall record. He was named Big 12 Player of the Week on April 6.
Diaz, a sophomore from Bogota, Colombia, has gone 4-3 against Big 12 opponents at the No. 6 position. Diaz has some big wins this season including the decisive match against Rice beating Jason Mok. He was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on April 20 and has a season record of 12-8.
Byrnes also teamed up with fellow Australian junior Mark Van Elden to take the No. 2 doubles title. Byrnes and Van Elden shared the award with Baylor's Benjamin Becker and Matias Marin. Byrnes and Van Elden went 10-4 on the season, including a 4-2 mark against Big 12 opponents. The pair finished the season ranked No. 59 by ITA.
The Cowboys will return to action against Oklahoma on Friday in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla., with the match slated to start at 6 p.m.
