Annie Thurman leads Big 12 Championships

The rest of the Cowgirls did not fare as well, however, as none finished higher than 32nd place individual after the first day. Sophomore Karin Sjödin and freshman Mallory Underwood each shot a six-over 78 and are tied for 32nd place. Freshman Candy Herrera shot a nine-over 81 and is tied for 50th place, while fellow freshman Ashley Knoll is tied for 54th place after carding an 83.
Thurman started the round with a birdie on 10, OSU's starting hole. She was two under after five holes, recording a birdie on the 14th hole. She bogeyed No. 15, and finished up the back nine at one under.
She birdied two of the next three holes to drop to three under, but stumbled with a bogey on the par-five fifth. One hole later, she birdied again, and finished with three pars to end the round.
Underwood eagled hole No. 1, her 10th hole of the day, but followed that with four-consecutive bogeys. Sjödin started off the day with a birdie, but bogeyed holes No. 11 through 15 to climb to four over. Herrera was one over through nine holes, but six bogeys and a triple bogey cost her on the front nine.
The tournament will continue on Saturday with another round of 18 holes, and conclude on Sunday with a final round of 18.
