Cowgirl Netters Snap Streak Against New Mexico State, 4-1

The Cowgirls (6-10, 1-5) started the morning off by claiming victories in two of the three doubles matches. OSU has claimed the team point for doubles in their last three matches.
“One of the most difficult things for our team is not knowing whether or not we will be playing indoors or outdoors,” said head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “Today we were able to overcome the wind and the cold to get an important victory for our team.”
New Mexico State (7-10, 2-3) jumped out to a quick start when Aline Opala and Isabelle Mignot defeated junior Ines Furtmayr and sophomore Zana Masnic at the second doubles position, 8-4.
The freshmen combo of Jennifer Poskitt and Lauren Simmons tied the score with an 8-2 victory over Nicole Fintell and Fanny Rollet at the third position.
Seniors Katya Kolodynska and Jana Karaskova gave the Cowgirls the 1-0 lead by defeating Lejla Porobic and Sandra Mayr at the top doubles spot.
“We were victorious today fortunately,” Lubicz-Majewski said. “The thing that has been helping us to compete better in these past few matches has been our ability to win in doubles.”
OSU never relinquished the lead, picking up the victories in three of the four completed singles positions.
Poskitt extended the Cowgirl lead by picking up a quick 6-1, 6-1 decision over Sara Baker at the No. 5 position.
The lone point for the Aggies came when Mignot defeated Kolodynska at the No. 1 slot, 6-1, 6-4. The Cowgirls led in every other singles match.
At the No. 3 position, Karaskova held off Rollet's late charge, picking up the 6-0, 7-6 (3) victory. Furtmayr clinched the victory for OSU with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory over Porobic at the second position.
The other two singles matches were not completed because the outcome of the match had been decided.
The Cowgirls will be looking for consecutive wins when they square off against Tulsa at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the DuBois Tennis Center in Stillwater. OSU will attempt to avenge last years 4-3 loss.
“Tulsa is a team that we feel we can really compete with,” Lubicz-Majewski said. “Our team seems to be ready to play against them and get revenge for our loss last year. We are psyched and ready to play against Tulsa.”
