Nina Stone Named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year
March 06, 2004 | Cowgirl Basketball
“Being named newcomer of the year in the Big 12 is an honor that Nina deserves and it is something that she can build on for the rest of her career at Oklahoma State,” OSU head coach Julie Goodenough said.
The Indianapolis, Ind., native is the squad's leading scorer at 12 points per game and has also recorded team highs with 84 assists and 42 steals. Stone is 21st in the Big 12 in scoring, seventh in free throw percentage (83.9), eighth in three-pointers made per game (1.59) and 15th in assists (3.11).
Stone is the first Cowgirl to receive the honor since the inception of the Big 12 and the first OSU player to receive the distinction since Stacy Coffey, who was named the Big Eight's top newcomer after the 1992-93 season.
