Cowboys host Aggies
Oklahoma State closes out the regular season this weekend as the Cowboys host the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday at 12:47 p.m. in a game televised by ESPN Regional. OSU is 23-3 overall this season and 13-2 in Big 12 Conference action, coming off a 76-67 win over Texas on Monday night in Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Aggies are 7-19 overall, 0-15 in league action and coming off a 86-60 loss at Oklahoma on Wednesday night in Norman. The Pokes are ranked seventh in the latest USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll, and eighth in the most recent Associated Press poll. Oklahoma State won the first meeting between these two teams, 91-79, on Feb. 3 in College Station. OSU also leads the all-time series with A&M, 22-8.
Senior Day
Prior to Saturday's contest with Texas A&M, Cowboy Basketball will honor three seniors. Tony Allen, Jason Miller and Janavor Weatherspoon will play their final game in Gallagher-Iba Arena following the ceremony.
Sutton honored
Also before Saturday's game with the Aggies, Coach Eddie Sutton will be presented as a recipient of the Naismith Good Sportsmanship Award. The Naismith award weighs 80 pounds and is 3-1/2 feet tall. An eight-inch bronze sculpture of James Naismith in a gym with replica peach baskets is featured on teh upper tier. On the base, six plaques contain the original rules of basketball. The award, the most prestigious presented by the Naismith Foundation, has been given to only 31 people, including Michael Jordan, Red Auerbach, John Wooden, Oscar Robertson and Pat Summit.
On television
Saturday's game between Oklahoma State and Texas A&M will be televised by ESPN Regional as part of the Big 12's television package. Fred White will handle the play-by-play duties, while Paul Splittorff will provide expert analysis.
A win on Saturday would ...
give Oklahoma State its first outright conference title since 1964-65 ... be OSU's 14th victory in its last 15 games ... give the Cowboys the most wins in a regular season (24) since the 1991-92 season, when OSU also won 24 regular-season contests ... hand Oklahoma State its 14th conference win of the season, the most in school history ... give OSU its 12th undefeated season at home in school history and its first since 1994-95.
Last time out
Joey Graham scored a game-high 20 points and Tony Allen added 19 as the Cowboys defeated the Texas Longhorns, 76-67, Monday night in Gallagher-Iba Arena. Graham was 10-of-15 from the floor and also had nine rebounds in the victory. The difference in the game came on the boards, as the Pokes outrebounded one of the nation's top rebounding teams, 36-25. John Lucas scored 14 points and dished out seven assists with just one turnover, and Daniel Bobik broke out of his shooting slump, scoring 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. OSU shot 78.3 percent from the free-throw line, connecting on 18-of-23 shots from the stripe. Jason Klotz led the ÂHorns with 19 points off the bench. OSU swept Texas for the first time since Big 12 play began in 1996-97.
Big 12 Champions
With the win on Monday, Oklahoma State clinched at least a share of the Big 12 Championship, its first since 1990-91, Coach Sutton's first year back at OSU. With a win Saturday, the Pokes will win their first outright league championship since 1964-65. It is Oklahoma State's 16th conference title in men's basketball.
