Cowgirls Drop Third Straight Match

The loss by the Cowgirls (5-8, 1-4) was their third consecutive defeat on the season, and second straight conference shutout. Texas (12-2, 5-0) extended their conference win streak to five total matches and is tied for the top spot in the league.
“I wish we could have taken a few more points from Texas today,” said head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “We have been making good progress as a team and I think that we certainly played better than today's score indicated.”
The Cowgirls lone victory on the day came at the No. 1 doubles position where seniors Katya Kolodynska and Jana Karaskova downed Katie Ruckert and Kendra Strohm, 8-6.
The Longhorns picked up the doubles point by picking up victories at the first and third positions.
In singles competition, OSU dropped several tightly contested slots, giving the Longhorns the victory.
“I liked the way that our team played against the Big 12's most talented team,” Lubicz-Majewski said. “Texas is a very difficult opponent, but our girls never gave up.”
Kolodynska faced a difficult opponent in nationally ranked Petra Dizdar, falling in straight sets 6-0, 6-3. Karaskova faced similar hardships at the No. 3 position, falling to Mia Marovic 6-2, 6-0.
Texas wrapped up the victory by picking up a 6-3, 6-4 decision at the No. 6 position. Freshman Jennifer Poskitt was defeated by Ristine Olson, 6-3, 6-4.
“This is a very tough season for us with so many young players,” Lubicz-Majewski said. “Jennifer and Lauren are learning a lot from this competition and are becoming better players because of it.”
Cowgirl junior Ines Furtmayr held an early lead against Ruckert at the No. 2 position, but was defeated 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Lauren Simmons also gave her opponent a strong fight, falling to Kelly Baritot at the fifth position 6-2, 7-5.
Texas ensured the shutout victory when Strohm downed sophomore Zana Masnic at the No. 4 position 7-6(8), 6-4.
Oklahoma State will return to action on April 3 when they face Texas Tech (8-5, 2-3) at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock, Texas.
“It is always tough to win against a difficult opponent at their place,” Lubicz-Majewski said. “We are going to go down their and play our best and hopefully win against Texas Tech.”
