March 15, 2004 | Cowboy Tennis
LAS VEGAS, Nev.– Oklahoma State’s men’s tennis team swept a pair of matches from UNLV and Southern Miss over the weekend to improve to 6-1 on the season.
The Cowboys took out the Rebels 6-1 on Friday afternoon behind Mark Van Elden’s straight set victory over #57 Henner Nehles. It was Van Elden’s third straight victory over a ranked opponent.
The Cowboys got off to a fast start claiming the first two doubles matches, before finishing off the Rebels by winning five of the six singles’ matches.
The Cowboys followed that up with a 5-1 defeat of Southern Miss on Saturday. OSU won all of their matches in straight sets, while Yevgen Bondarchuk is still being hampered by a nagging leg injury and was forced to retire after one set.
The Pokes are in San Diego preparing for a trio of matches with the San Diego, Utah and #58 Purdue. The Cowboys will face the Toreros beginning tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
