Cowboy Tennis Dispatches Drake 5-2

TULSA, Okla. Â– Oklahoma State's men's tennis team improved to 3-0 with a 5-2 win over Drake at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.

The Pokes scored first winning all three doubles' matches. Mark Van Elden and Daniel Byrnes defeated the Bulldogs top pair of Anthony Perkins and Felipe Montenegro 8-6. Yevgen Bondarchuk and Boris Kuharic had little trouble in defeating Matt McClure and Sergi Vila 8-2. Tomas Bohunicky and Juan Felipe Diaz completed the doubles' sweep with an 8-6 win over Jack Frankowicz and Jonathan Tishler.

OSU won four of the six singles' matches to finish off Drake. Van Elden had the easiest match at the No. 1 position with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Perkins. Bondarchuk and Bohunicky were both pushed by Montenegro and McClure before winning 6-4, 7-6 and 7-6, 6-3, respectively. Boris Kuharic defeated Jack Frankowicz at the No. 4 position 6-4, 6-3.

Drake won the last two matches beating Byrnes and Diaz. Byrnes lost to Sergi Vila in a third set tie-breaker 6-4, 4-6, 12-10. Diaz lost to Tishler 6-4, 6-2 to close out the match.

OSU heads west to Santa Barbara, Calif. to take on a couple of ranked foes. The Cowboys will face No. 59 Oregon on Feb. 21 and turn around to face No. 64 UC Santa Barbara a day later.
