Cowgirl Basketball Falls In Overtime At Oral Roberts, 65-61
December 05, 2004 | Cowgirl Basketball
The Cowgirls (2-3) struggled offensively in the early going. After a three-pointer by Nina Stone on their initial possession, OSU did not score again until a Stone free throw six minutes later. The Indianapolis, Ind., native scored the squad's first 10 points and no other Cowgirl got into the scoring column until a basket by Destanie Sykes at the 6:44 mark of the half.
Stone, who played all 45 minutes, finished with a team-high 21 points, including a 4-of-9 effort from beyond the three-point line.
OSU closed out the half with a 6-0 run to knot the score at 26 apiece and took a three-point lead in the first 60 seconds of the second period. However, the Golden Eagles (4-1) reclaimed the lead on an Elisha Turek layup and never trailed again. Turek finished with 27 points and 13 rebounds on the day to lead both squads in each category.
After neither team could convert chances at the end of regulation, Turek scored ORU's first four points of the extra frame and Katie Langford nailed a pair of free throws with two seconds remaining to lock up the Golden Eagles' third consecutive victory over the Cowgirls.
OSU will return to action on Sunday when it hosts Arkansas Tech at 6 p.m.
