Cowgirls Set To Take On Memphis
December 10, 2004 | Cowgirl Basketball
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team (3-3) will head to Memphis, Tenn., this weekend for its third and final non-conference game away from home when it takes on the Memphis Lady Tigers (5-2) at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
ABOUT MEMPHIS
Memphis will enter the weekend looking to bounce back from a 59-53 loss to Arkansas. After opening the season with four consecutive wins, the Lady Tigers have dropped two of their last three contests. Both of Memphis' losses this season have come at the hands of teams from the powerful Southeastern Conference. In addition to the Lady'Backs, then-No. 13 Vanderbilt owns a win over the Lady Tigers. Memphis' five wins have come at the hands of Mercer, Lipscomb, Centenary, Louisiana-Monroe and Tennessee-Martin. Equipped with a senior-laden lineup, four of the squads' five starters are seniors with the lone exception being sophomore guard Devin Necaise. Memphis has a pair of players scoring in double figures in Victoria Crawford (13.6 ppg) and Jennifer Sullivan (12.1 ppg). The squads' leading rebounder is Raven Rogers, who is grabbing a team-best 8.1 boards per outing.
OSU AND MEMPHISÂTHE SERIES
Saturday's meeting will be the just the second ever between the two schools. The lone contest produced a 75-64 Cowgirl victory in Memphis during the 1992-93 season. OSU has enjoyed considerable success against members of Conference USA, posting a 9-0 mark all-time against its member schools.
WHAT 2 WATCH 4
A win would snap OSU's 11-game losing streak in road contests, dating back to last season's overtime win at Santa Clara ... a win would give the Cowgirls back-to-back wins for the first time since defeating Texas Tech and Iowa State in consecutive outings last season.
