Cowgirl Basketball Ends Skid Against Wichita State
December 01, 2004 | Cowgirl Basketball
OSU (2-2) battled through 27 turnovers and forced WSU (2-4) into 30 mistakes on the way to their first victory over the Shockers since Dec. 9, 2000.
The Cowgirls got off to a slow start, trailing until the 11:38 mark of the first half before closing out the final four minutes of the period with a 16-6 run to build a 42-27 halftime lead. OSU, which had been outscored by a 38-8 margin off turnovers over the past two games, scored 23 points off WSU's 16 miscues in the half.
In the second half, the Cowgirls withstood three Shocker rallies that saw the lead trimmed to single digits on each occasion before OSU pulled away down the stretch.
Offensively, the Cowgirls got a balanced scoring effort that saw six players finish with at least seven points.
Senior Nina Stone hit five of her 10 shot attempts to finish with 14 points. The Indianapolis, Ind., native also grabbed six rebounds to go with four steals. Sophomore Devry McDonald also scored 14 points and added a pair of steals.
OSU will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Tulsa to take on Oral Roberts at 2 p.m. in the Quik Trip Bertha Teague Classic.
