Cowgirl Basketball Rolls Past Nicholls State, 83-49, In Opener

The Cowgirls (1-0) got a stellar offensive performance from senior Nina Stone, who hit six three-pointers in the first half to tie the school record for made three-point field goals in a game. The Indianapolis, Ind., native tied the mark held by four players and last reached by Jennifer Crow on Dec. 15, 1996 against Nicholls State.
Stone scored 23 first-half points before finishing with a game-high 25 on a 9-of-14 effort from the floor.
Despite shooting 55 percent in the first half, OSU led by only nine at 40-31 before limiting the Colonels (0-1) to just 18 points in the second half to pull away.
NSU held Stone to just three shot attempts in the second half, but the rest of the Cowgirl offense stepped up with 41 second-half points, including 28 of which were scored in the paint.
Senior Eliz Gomes fought through foul trouble to score 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor, while freshman Taleesha Conder came off the bench to hit five of her six field goals to add 11 points in her OSU debut.
Sophomore Devry McDonald was solid running the point, dishing out five assists in her first game as a Cowgirl, while fellow sophomore Destanie Sykes came off the bench to add five steals and five rebounds.
OSU will return to action on Tuesday night when it hosts New Mexico at 8:30 p.m. in Stillwater.
