Cowgirl Basketball Adds Five During Fall Signing Period

Amanda Brown, Taylor Hardeman, Jacie Hoyt, Tiffanie Johnson and Shaunte Smith all cast their lot with the Cowgirls on Wednesday and will be join the program for the 2005-06 season.
Brown, a 5-5 guard from Richardson, Texas, averaged 18 points, three rebounds and four assists last season for Berkner High School. She was ranked as the No. 68 point guard nationally by the All-Star Girls Report and was tabbed as a first-team All-District 9-5A selection as a junior.
“Amanda is a 1-2 combo guard whose athleticism and ability to get out and guard people will be her biggest assets,” Goodenough said.
Hardeman, a native of Norman, Okla., averaged 12 points per game last season and finished sixth in Class 6A with 74 steals for Norman High. The 5-8 shooting guard led NHS to a semifinal appearance in the state tournament and earned honorable mention all-state honors as a junior.
“Taylor is a hard-nosed kid on the court who plays really physical and can be a defensive weapon for us,” Goodenough said.
Hoxie, Kan., native Jacie Hoyt averaged 24.9 points per outing a year ago for Hoxie High School on her way to earning first-team Class 2A All-State honors. The 5-6 guard was also tabbed as a third-team all-state selection for all classes by the Wichita Eagle.
“Jacie is a very talented scoring guard with a knack for getting to the basket. She will also be a great leader on the floor,” Goodenough said.
Johnson, a Crockett, Texas native, was a first-team all-district performer and earned second-team all-region recognition last season from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. The 5-10 guard is also a standout in volleyball, having garnered all-district honors.
“Tiffanie comes from a program where she is the go-to player. She plays with a lot of confidence and we like her intangibles,” Goodenough said.
Smith, a native of Oklahoma City, Okla, averaged 16.0 points per game and 8.9 per contest for Putnam City North High School. The 6-1 forward earned first-team all-state honors and was tabbed as the No. 15 power forward and No. 77 player overall by the All-Star Girls Report.
“Shaunte will be the most versatile player we sign. She has developed her outside shot, can post up and can create her own shot,” Goodenough said.
