Daniel was a consistent starter for the Cowboys a year ago. His dedication and hard-nosed attitude got him in the starting lineup, and his offense, and especially defense, kept him there. Daniel is a deadly three-point shooter, but doesnt overshoot. He has the surprising ability to lock down on the opposing teams best perimeter player. He doesnt always look to score, which can sometimes be his downfall. He is extremely tough on himself.
2003-04 (Junior): Daniel started in 34 of 35 games his junior season, beginning the game vs. Texas A&M in the Cowboys regular-season finale on the bench so that senior Janavor Weatherspoon could start. Daniels best game of the season was undoubtedly his homecoming contest against BYU in Salt Lake City, when he scored a game-high 18 points and dished out eight assists with just one turnover. He scored 16 points in the following game against Southeastern State, connecting on 5-of-7 shots from beyond the three-point arc. In fact, over a five-game span in late December, Daniel connected on 18-of-24 (75 percent) shots from the floor, including 12 of 17 (70.6 percent) from long range. Daniel grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and also dished out seven assists in that game. He had 13 double-figure scoring games during the season, including three consecutive against Texas, Texas Tech and Texas A&M in late January. Daniel finished the season ranked fourth in the Big 12 Conference in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 41.6 percent of his shots. He also had a 1.62 assist/turnover ratio. Daniel had eight games with five or more assists. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the Touchtone Energy All-College Classic.
2002-03 (Redshirt): Daniel sat out the 2002-03 season as a redshirt after transferring to Oklahoma State from BYU.
2001-02 (Sophomore): Daniel averaged 6.8 points and 2.2 rebounds in 30 games for BYU in just over 18 minutes per contest. He shot 45.5 percent from the floor, including 31-of-74 from beyond the arc (41.9 percent). He also connected on 87 percent of his free throws (40-of-46). Daniel dished out 34 assists, had 23 steals and six blocked shots. In a three-game span from Dec. 15 until Dec. 27, he averaged 14.7 points per game. Daniel made 5-of-7 three-point attempts vs. Idaho on Dec. 15, and scored a season-best 17 points while at BYU. He equaled that mark with 17 points vs. Cal State-Northridge two games later, a game in which he dished out a season-high four assists. Daniel grabbed eight rebounds vs. Creighton, a season high. He finished with eight double-figure scoring games his sophomore season.
2000-01 (Freshman): Daniel averaged 3.5 points and 1.4 rebounds in 10.4 minutes per game while playing in 28 of 33 games his first year at BYU. He scored a season-high 16 points in the first game of his collegiate career vs. Elon College, and had his second double-digit game with 11 points against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Daniel scored nine points, grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists in a win over Florida International. He tied his season high of three assists vs. Idaho and Wyoming. Daniel scored five points and grabbed a season-high six boards in the win over Colorado State.
High School: Daniel lettered three times at Newbury Park High School for coach Steve Johnson, and was team captain his junior and senior years. He averaged 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals per game his senior year. Daniel was named Most Valuable Player of the Marmonte League as a junior and MVP of Ventura County as a senior. He was selected to the all-region team and was first-team All-CIF and All-State. He was also named honorable mention high school All-American by USA Today. Daniel was recruited by Washington, Washington State, Oregon State, Pepperdine and Tulsa.
Personal: Born June 26, 1979, in Omaha, Neb., Daniel is the son of Ralph and Sheri Bobik. He and his wife, Natalie, have a son, Jaxton. Daniel has two brothers, Brian and Aaron, and a sister, Christina. He is majoring in marketing at Oklahoma State. Daniel served a two-year Latter Day Saints mission from July 1998 to July 2000 in the Dominican Republic. His father played collegiate basketball for Coach Sutton at Creighton and was on the 1974 NCAA Tournament team.
