Black Team Shines In Basketball Bash
October 17, 2004 | Cowboy Basketball
Cowboy senior Joey Graham won a close battle in the slam-dunk competition over newcomer Aaron Pettway in the finals. Highlights of his dunks included an alley-oop bounce pass over John Lucas, and a two-ball slam where he dunked one ball on the right and the other from the left.
In the three-point shootout, John Lucas won by a narrow margin over Stephen Graham in the finals. Lucas scored 13 treys in the first round, 13 in the second and 12 in the finals to win the competition.
The festivities concluded with a 10-minute half scrimmage between the Black and White squads. The Black team, led by fifth-year senior Ivan McFarlin, dominated the scrimmage and won, 45-31. McFarlin had 13 points and four rebounds in the running clock exhibition.
Lucas added 11 points for the Black squad, and also dished out three assists. Joey Graham scored 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting for the White team, but the team's leading scorer was his twin brother, Stephen, who scored 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the floor and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
Senior Terrence Crawford showed his improved conditioning, leading the Black squad on several fast breaks. He finished with eight points and three boards. Redshirt freshman Marcus Dove scored six points on a perfect 3-of-3 shooting performance, and also had an assist and two steals.
Oklahoma State will open the exibition portion of its schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 9, as the Cowboys host USAO in a 7 p.m. tipoff.
